This Hidden Part Of Your Personality Might Be Defining You More Than You Know

We all have a birthday, but when’s the last time you thought about your birthstone? Honestly, they seem more like an ancient tradition; a gift from grandma or some old family heirloom. But I’m gonna fill you in on some awesome secrets about the healing properties of birthstones and what that means to you. Read on to discover your unique stone and what it says about your personality.

But first, some history. If you can believe it, birthstones originated in the Bible, from the Torah. Taken from a passage in the book of Exodus describing the breastplate of Aaron, the stones represented the 12 tribes of Israel. Scholars later connected these gemstones to the 12 zodiac signs, but it wasn’t until the 18th century that the stones were assigned to specific months.

So when did we start putting birthstones in jewelry? Tiffany & Co were the first to incorporate birthstone jewelry into their product line in the late 1800’s. This part didn’t surprise me because come on, it’s Tiffany! We all know he was a genius when it comes to romancing women with beautiful objects. Then in 1912, the National Association of Jewelers defined a modern day list of birthstones. This list has since been updated and become more commercialized so the religious connection doesn’t get mentioned anymore, but there’s still spiritual and healing properties that are pretty amazing.

So, let’s talk about the awesome characteristics of each month’s stone and what they say about you! A little side note here: some months have more than one stone that are commonly used. For those of you with multiples, you get to pick your fav or just have both!

January: You’re a hopeless romantic.

Representing love and enhancing sexuality, this stone brings warmth, devotion, understanding, trust, sincerity & honesty to your relationships. February: You’re the dependable one.

If you’re born in February, your stone is amethyst, which can vary in color from bright purple to light green. Said to strengthen relationships and bring the wearer courage, this stone helps cleanse negative energy and promote greater understanding. The pure white light of this stone creates a cohesiveness to your life. They assist in relieving fear and anxiety. Known to encourage truth and trust, the diamond creates a harmonious energy within the wearer.

May: You’re the unifier.

Bright and beautiful green, the emerald is a very rare stone. It’s a symbol of rebirth, love, loyalty, and domestic bliss. It promotes friendship by keeping partnerships in balance and enhancing unity. An interesting characteristic of the emerald, is that it can signal unfaithfulness by changing color. Stimulating the heart chakra, it has a healing effect on emotions and the physical heart.

December: You’re the wanderer.

By far the coolest characteristic of this stone is its ability to help you master your own happiness by identifying things that bring you joy and focusing on them instead of things that cause you unhappiness or frustration. Also, it’ll protect you from external influences allowing you to truly be the keeper of your own feelings.
